Nintendo's Direct Dropped The Wisdom And Xbox Finally Dropped The Dominos - The Grind Games Podcast #62
Welcome back! Today we FINALLY get to talk about the dominos at Xbox dropping, showing their bag of goodies to all us eager gamers out here and Nintendo just recently had a direct that I am all in love with. Let's get into it on this long overdue episode!
Hello and welcome back to the grind games podcast. My name is Rob Garcia. It's been quite some time. I am excited to get back in here and talk to everyone, and it couldn't be a better time, because SGF just finished up, we had the Xbox Game Showcase, we had the Nintendo Direct. So many exciting things to talk about, so many good games that are coming out the rest of 2024. And so many things to look forward to in 2025. And, of course, starting off with the Xbox Game Showcase. Now this showed off quite a bit.
Rob:To be honest, I can't say that I was expecting all that much with the Xbox game showcase initially going in, because I mean, I was, of course, expecting to see the usual suspects right the Call of Duty, now that they own that company, right, the Activision Blizzard and, of course, going with Activision Blizzard, I was, of course, expecting to see the update that we've been waiting for with Diablo 4. We got to take a good look at all of that, but they of course had the Indiana Jones the Great Circle. We did have a lot of good surprises with that conference that I was very surprised to see, that conference that I was very surprised to see. Now, during the last showcase, xbox showed off Fable and it was really just a quick teaser. It wasn't like a gameplay trailer or anything like that and we still didn't necessarily get any of that for Fable. I'm very excited for Fable because it was one of those games that I kind of had at home growing up. One of my brothers would always play it. I would always see him and he would really grind that game out hard Right. So, seeing the new Fable, the art style is different and you know I'm expecting that they're going to put a lot of changes into the gameplay mechanics from what they had back then. So I'm very excited about that. There was a lot of great games the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. I mean I'm excited to see that game. If you all haven't seen these trailers for all of, or rather the game showcase itself, definitely it's worth taking a look for all of them because I mean, there's just so much information, so much gameplay footage, especially for Indiana Jones it's you know most people out there are saying it looks good, but there's something a little bit off. I'm not sure how it plays yet. I want to see how that's going to go first, but I'm excited for it.
Rob:To be honest, what I want from it is an Uncharted adventure, because I loved uncharted. It was one of those games that when I played it, it was what back when ps4 had the collection that you could get with it, and I was like, all right, I'll just get this, I don't whatever uncharted, I don't really care about it. I bought it, popped it in, I started playing and I was like I bought the game, it came with the console, I might as well try it out. Loved it. I was like, oh my god, what have I been missing out on? And it was one of those games that since then I would die hard for it. I liked it a lot and it's weird because, going into the Last of Us because of that, I was like the game is fun but for some reason it's not hitting for me as hard as it is for everyone else. I don't know if it's just because it's I was expecting so much or because the first game, essentially when I played it was the you know remastered kind of ps3 version, right, um, that they had put out on ps4. But it still felt like an old game. Maybe that's why I I I don't know, but it didn't hit as hard for me. I enjoyed the story, but I'm hoping that the part two will definitely hit harder for me, which I know I still haven't played. Everyone else has. But it's in my backlog and I have it there and I'm gonna do it on the ps5 with the upgrade for it and everything.
Rob:But I'm excited to see indiana jones. I'm excited to see what they have. It looks great. Um, you know they have all that quippy conversation from Indy himself. I'm excited to see, of course, doom the Dark Ages, which is another Doom that's coming up, but this is taking place to what seems to be like more medieval times. You have kind of these monsters running around. You got the armor, you got all this excitement that's going in. I'm hoping at one get this a huge ass sword that you could just cleave through everybody. Um, but there were so many good things.
Rob:The the avowed was, you know, interesting enough, like I said, from the xbox showcase. We'll list them off. Right, we got the call of duty 6, black ops, 6, rather, indiana jones, doom, dark ages, avowed, the diablo 4 update, hatred, which, by the way, was great. So I saw this showcase after it actually went live, and so, what I always like to do. I'll watch and then I'll skip ahead. I don't care about this game, I'll skip ahead, skip ahead. So when I got to Diablo 4, it was just one of those cut scenes, so I said it's OK, I'll skip ahead, see if they have any gameplay, any updates, anything like that.
Rob:I skipped maybe 10, 15 seconds into the trailer itself and seeing that trailer, I was like, oh man, no, no, no. I got to go back and watch it from the beginning, because it is a crazy trailer to see. It's kind of gory, to be honest. It really caught me and I said I need to go back, I need to watch this from the beginning to end. And, uh, it did not disappoint. As you know, blizzard is amazing with their cut scenes. The way they make everything look. It was great. So I'm excited for that. And they did show that the vessel of hatred is adding a brand new um class character to the game. That has never been seen before. Um, and I'm excited to get my hands on it because it's kind of like a spirit animal type of character that you would expect to see in the amazon jungle or something like that. So I'm excited to see how that's going to play. Um. So it was that.
Rob:Of course, there was flight simulator 2024, which I've tried. Flight simulator it's pretty, it's just fun. You have to be into the actual simulation part of it. Right, it's a lot of buttons and a lot of uh switches that you're flipping over there, but this one seems to be adding a lot of different things that you're actually going to be doing, aside from from just flying from point A to point B, which is exciting for those that are really into that. So there was the World of Warcraft, the War Within, update, expansion, dragon Age, valeguard, or rather the Valeguard.
Rob:I'm very excited for this because it looks very interesting. I'm excited to see what this is going to be like, if it's going to be like a action rpg, if it's going to be a bit different, more story focused. It seems like is is what it's going to be, um, so I'm that one is going to be on my radar until it comes out, until we see more as well. Um, now, assassin'sadows. Um, like everyone else, I was excited about this because this is, of course, taking place in Japan and of course, we have ninjas in Japan and we have, you know, samurai and I wasn't sure how they were going to do it.
Rob:Black samurai, which, yes, it is a historical figure that they are using for this. I'm sure they're taking some liberties with it, but he is going to be more of the tanky, beat him up samurai kind of guy. Right, not even beat him up, but he's the one that's not hiding, not sneaking, he's the one that comes up and says, yeah, we're getting into this right now, and that's what he is. And then you have naoe, which is going to be the ninja, which is going to be the stealth, the assassin, and, to be honest, as of right now, I'm more leaning to the ninja side, the assassin side, the, the stealthy, uh, sneaking around. I'm thinking that's what I'm going to like more, but I I say that knowing full well that in most stealth games that I play, I I do that for a bit and then all of a sudden, no, I'm just gonna jump down and slay everybody. So maybe I'm going to like to play with yasuke versus naoe more. We, you know, it goes on. Really, what you're feeling inside at the moment? Right, are you angry? You want to take everyone out, or you want to be stealthy and get everything done quietly, but I've yet to know if they're really going to give you the option to play the whole game through. From what it, from what they showed and what they've kind of been saying, it seems like they may force switch you to do uh, each character during different parts of the story maybe. Either way, I'm excited for it.
Rob:There was Stalker 2, age of Mythology Retold. Now for this one, like I said, it's one of those kind of like tactics, rpg kind of games. The CRPG the word escaped me, but it's a real-time strategy, rpg, rts. Now, these I do enjoy them sometimes. I've played them before and for some reason they've caught me. So this might be one of the ones that I play and it catches me again.
Rob:But you know, it wasn't one of those ones that I really popped off. For Fable, of course, like I said, I did pop off for a bit. There was a mixtape. They did show new gameplay footage, or rather the unveiling of, uh, perfect dark, which looks pretty awesome. I'm not gonna lie, it looks very interesting. Um then, if you don't know, that is perfect dark kind of was very popular back in the nintendo 64. It's one of those games that people really loved, um, so I'm excited to see what they're going to do with this one. They did try to re-bring, bring it back at some point in in one of, uh, the past generations and it didn't work out too well, uh, so maybe this one will looks very interesting.
Rob:So far now, this one, this next one, expedition 33. I did pop off for this because this looks great. This looks, this is really up my alley. This is like a term-based, um, kind of rpg exposition. 33 this like this weird thing going on the painter, or whatever the artist they called it during the showcase that each year changes the number drops it from 34 to 33 is what it did in the beginning of the showcase, and what happens is everyone who is at that age, rather all the 34 year olds basically just died. So the 33 year olds are you know, it's their turn next. So they are going off on an expedition now to try to take this painter out so that essentially, everybody stops dying. But it's a turn-based game and it really has all that style, kind of like Persona 5. And I am all here for it. It looks so good, I'm so excited for this, I can't wait. It's one of those things that I barely feel like I need to see anything more about.
Rob:South of Midnight we had which was next, and this one looks good. It looks good. I'm interested to see what's going to go on with this one, but it wasn't one that I popped off for starfield, shattered space was next, and zero knows this is not necessarily my bag. I know a lot of people love it. I tried it and I was like, okay, it's okay, it's fine. So I know that the people that do love this game will like this so much more, and I know that the Shattered Space expansion, or the DLC or the update we'll call it, is going to add so much more to the game and make a lot of those kind of quality of life changes that it really needed. So I don't know, maybe I'll try and it'll really make me come back to it.
Rob:Next we're State of Decay 3. Needed. So I don't know, maybe I'll try and it'll really make me come back to it. Next, with state of k, state of decay 3. So if you're very familiar with the game, state of decay 2 zombie game, although this one seems to be adding a lot more importance into the uh, the party mechanic of it, the having your friends and all that. So I'm curious to see how this is going to go.
Rob:Uh, the wuchang fallen feathers. This is kind of a chinese mythology kind of thing. It looks interesting. It's, um, almost like a uh was it crouching tiger, hidden dragon. They did the jump, flying through the air with the sword pointed out. Um, it's an action rpg. It looks like. I'm interested to see what this is going to be, but they didn't show all too much just yet. I want to see more of it. I want to see more of the story kind of what's involved and all that.
Rob:Next we have Elder Scrolls Online, the Golden Road. It's an expansion. This game has been going on for so long. I am so surprised with all the kind of support that this is getting from everyone out there. It is a good game, it's fun. It wasn't as fun as uh skyrim to me, but it was. It was still definitely fun. It's one of those. You, it's an mmo. You buy it. You don't have to essentially pay more for the game monthly like you do with world of warcraft or final fantasy 14, so you do get your bang for your buck, I feel like. So next, metal gear, solid delta.
Rob:We got to see the gameplay and, oh boy, there's nothing more to say about this one other than the fact that this looks good. I well, great. Honestly, I'm excited for this. This was one of the games that I played back in a day and I didn't think I was going to like the whole. You have to eat a snake, you have to do this, you have to do that. There's a lot of mechanics to the stealthy part of it and staying alive, and I loved it.
Rob:Very excited to see what they're going to do with this. Even though it's not Hideo Kojima himself kind of spearheading it, I'm still excited. I mean, everything's there. They just got to rev, re-imagine the game. Not even reimagine, but remaster, remake, make it better, make it pretty, make it play better, like more modern, right, and do the same thing. That's all I'm hoping for. So far it looks great.
Rob:I'm excited to see fallout 76 is next. They had their skyline valley update. It's another one haven't played, you know, too much of kind of jumped in, jumped out. A lot of people that did end up staying with it really love it, and a lot of people that watched the fallout show came back to it and they love it as well. So this skyline valley update I know a lot of people are saying they're very interested in um, but for me it's kind of one of those I could take it or leave it. So we'll run through the rest so that we can get into what I'm very excited to talk about, which very much more recent than nintendo direct. But so next was the life is strange. It's a double exposure, this one. If you like Life is Strange, you're going to like this, I imagine. From what I hear, the people that are in that camp are very excited about this. I honestly don't have much to say about this because I've never had hands on with any of these games.
Rob:Next is Sea of Thieves. You know what? Sea of Thieves is fun If you're into it. You got friends. Sea of Thieves is always fun. They have an update for it. I'm excited that they are continuing to support this game. They add so much to it.
Rob:Afterwards, adam Fall. Again. It's another one. I don't have much to say about Adam Fall. Even so, we're just going to jump ahead to the one that I, uh, was actually very excited for flintlock, the siege of dawn. Oh, flintlock. Now that one that one could be a banger on our hands. That's coming in shortly now, this one it looks to be like a souls, like almost like a bloodborne, in the way that you have your sword and you have your gun at the same time. So I'm very excited to see what this is, although it's more like steampunky right. So I'm very excited to see what Flintlock is going to be about, because the battle mechanics, the fight scenes that they were showing off and it was supposed to be in-game footage it looks great. It looks great.
Rob:I'm very interested to see what will come of this game. This might be one of those games that I definitely try out because, um, if you've heard any of our other content, you will know that I am very much into um, elden ring and other souls like games. There's something about the game pushing back on you so hard and you trying to overcome it just to get something done. That is so exciting to me. So I'm very excited to see what flintlock has to offer. Uh, we'll keep barreling through. We have three more winter bro, nothing, so much to say these last two.
Rob:So frag punk and mecha break, all right. So frag punk, it's seems like another first person shooter, um, pvp game, that kind of like, let's say, call of duty. I guess you can say if you're doing multiplayer on it, um, deathmatch style almost. I hear this game is good from the people that have gotten hands-on with the game. I mean, if you look at it, it's very stylish, very know, quick in its movement, but it's hard to say what, or rather how good the game is going to be until you get your hands on it. So I don't know, maybe it'll be one of those ones that we all fall in love with, maybe it'll be one of those ones that quickly die off, kind of honestly. The same thing goes for the next game, mecha break.
Rob:So mecha break, I was fully waiting for them to say it was some sort of gundam game, because you're in the big robots, you're fighting each other. And I will say it really does have that quick movement, that quick action that you would want from a uh, a gundam game, like a gundam fighting game. I don't know if they've had it. I think gundam break is actually another one that they've made before, which very well may have been the same team, to be honest, but these games don't really get too popular. I know they have their own little kind of niche audience that really love these. I will say make a break, looks really good. Um, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt, because I want to try it. You know what I mean. I'll try it out to see how it feels like then. But before then I'll just say it looks good.
Rob:Quick combat mechanics, shooting off guns, getting enclosed with melee weapons, I imagine of. And it is pretty cool that the robots themselves, or the mechs themselves. They go from kind of the full humanoid form to the kind of plane form to. I even believe I saw some half plane forms there, kind of a la Robotech, if you know that back in the day, where the legs are sticking out from the bottom but it's still like a plane and has arms and shooting stuff. So if you can go through all of those kind of do different things, I think it will be interesting, um, and I'm excited to see what that's going to be about.
Rob:But as far as the xbox game showcase, that is what we got. The last thing, of course, that they did end up showing was Gears of War, e-day. Now E-Day takes place years before the actual first game. I forgot exactly what the time frame was, but the first game of course takes place after E-Day. They have the Lancer they have, which is the assault rifle with the chainsaw on it. So, from what they're saying, this game is taking place Before that. They don't have the lenses yet, because it all just came down.
Rob:The trailer they showed starts off with Dom coming in to get Marcus Phoenix. Thank you, sorry. In the first game he comes out prison, um, and he's locked up. They take him out and they essentially need him to fight them off, and that's what you're doing in the first game. Now, eday, what you're seeing is marcus phoenix. He's fighting off one of these aliens and like he's getting his ass beat. So he's not, he's not, used to fighting these, he doesn't have the right weapon, he doesn't have the army, he doesn't have everything that he needs to go up against these guys.
Rob:Going to, or rather how he's going to change throughout this game and what's what's going to kind of be the end of of this game, leading into what is the first game of uh, of Gears of War, and maybe, if this does well, I imagine they very well might remake even Gears of War, because Gears of War came out a long time ago on the Xbox 360. And I recently tried to go back to it because I wanted to play with my kid and it doesn't hold up as well. I guess it feels different, like all the mechanics and the buttons and everything that you're doing. It just feels like an older game. It doesn't feel like what you'd expect to see from a modern game, of course, which is understandable, but anyways, I'm excited about Gears of War.
Rob:It was one of those games that I always liked. It had a great story and I'm excited to see Dom again, because you know I'll leave it at that. But that was the Xbox Game Showcase. Like I said, they showed off much. It was a great showcase, it was exciting. I loved it. I know Zero enjoyed it decently enough as well. Now the Nintendo Game Conference, or the Nintendo Direct sorry, this recently just showed last night and it was great. I will say I loved it and I will say that it did not have everything for everyone. Before we get into it, knowing that Zero couldn't be here today, knowing that he couldn't sit down with me for an hour he's a busy man right now did happen to make a little review for us and before I get into it, I'd like to play that review for us, just to go ahead and kick things off.
Zero:Alright, I only got two minutes for this. So Mario Luigi Brothership, dope as fuck. Nintendo World Championship NES Edition. I thought it was an online thing. No, you gotta buy it. Kinda cool Fairy Tail, fuck that Neo Dimension. Eh, Sports, okay, mio kinda looks like that fuckin' um. What's that game with the little bug? That's kind of like a roguelike. I forget the name of it, but everybody wants it. Hollow Knight you dumbass Um Disney Illusion. I don't care. Hello Kitty, I had an adventure. Finally, butters gets his favorite game. Butters from South Park get the reference.
Clip:So what's the plan? All right, log in tonight from your computers at precisely 7.30. We will meet here on the plains of the Elwynn Forest near Westfall. My friends, to victory, To victory. I don't play World of Warcraft, Butters. You said you're on your computer all the time. Yeah, but I'm playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Butters. Go buy World of Warcraft, install it on your computer and join the online sensation before we all murder you. Ho ho, ho, ho. Alright, alright, then.
Zero:Looney Tunes don't care. Amongers don't care. Uh, farm Gaia shit. That is the shittiest looking fucking game I've ever seen. Donkey Kong Country HD returns love it. Dragon Quest HD remakes, plus one and two down for it. Love it. Funko Fusion, not kosher. Luigi's Mansion 2, good, the new Demp.
Rob:See, on this one he meant The New Denpaman, which is a weird game about a whole bunch of colorful guys that you end up fighting as a kind of JRPG-style turn-based type of thing. Pikmin-ish, weird Dempomon, I don't know, it's weird. It looks like a whole bunch of me's in what appears to be cosplay of Power Rangers. I didn't like it either. That's why I don't bring it up later. I forgot.
Zero:Metal Slug Attack Meh. Darkest Dungeon 2? Okay. Finally, we get to fucking put some shit on the Nintendo Switch users. The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Packs for Mature 17 games with Turok and Perfect Dark, I like that. Phantom Brave. Lost Hero Okay, that's fine. Whatever, marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection Not getting it from the Switch, but I know it's gonna come out on everything else. Love it. Mario Party that's cool. Legend of Zelda echoes of wisdom you get to play as fucking Zelda and you get to copy shit. I'm down. Let's see what that goes. Just dance no. Lego Horizon whatever stray good game. Lord of the Rings don't give a shit. Two Minutes is happening. Ace Attorney don't care. 100 Line fucking Romance Saga don't give a shit. Metroid 4, prime 4 Beyond I'm liking it. I'm liking it. Overall good, fucking Direct.
Rob:Really fucking good. That's where he cuts off, but it's a good fucking showcase, is what basically he's going to get at, and I agree. So that conference, or the direct from Nintendo, was great. They had a lot of good games that spoke to me and, like you heard, from Zero, there was a decent amount of games that really didn't matter to us. Now I want to get into the ones that it's a bit odd. So they had that fantasia game, uh, from square enix, which sure you know it's exciting uh, and then they had that hello kitty island adventure game.
Rob:So, if you don't know, these two were actually, or rather are, on mobile. The hello kitty game is on arcade and I know this because I have, uh apple arcade and my kids have played it before. They like it. They she let. Well, rather, my daughter likes it and my niece they like it. They played it a little bit but it's no animal crossing, I'll tell you that much right now. That fantasia game I heard is decent and it's interesting how they have that mechanic of you get to make an arch for the way that the attack is going to hit. I didn't know they had that in the in the mobile game before. Maybe they didn't. But, um, it looks interesting, so let's get into the nitty gritty of it. Let's get into the good stuff.
Rob:Um, no specific order for this, but, as you heard, zero mentioned mario and luigi brothership. Now, this, think, looks great. If you have ever played a Mario and Luigi game, say that. We're on the GBA before and you know this is an RPG style game. You're playing as Mario and Luigi, you're doing turn-based battles and all that. The art style, of course, was nowhere near what we're getting from this new one. And let me tell you this is coming out November 7th and that is so close and this game looks so good. The art style it has kind of those inky lines around the edges so that you can really see the characters, see essentially all the different art pieces within its world. And I'll be honest, when I first started seeing this, when they were saying Mario, luigi, let's go, come on, they were running around doing their thing I initially was like, is this a show? Are they showing something like a new show or is it like an animated trailer for something else? But no, this is the game. This is the game. It is so smooth. It looks like it's running at 60 frames a second and, honestly, for what this game is, I would not expect or rather I expect that it wouldn't be running at anything less than even on this old switch hardware that we have.
Rob:I'm excited to see what this game's story is really about. If you don't know, it's called brothership. I seem to see a good amount of people out there confused like why is it called brother ship? You see a ship in this, in this, uh, in this trailer, and during the trailer they do mention they are kind of island hopping, almost. Um, you see them at one point get a rather land on an island and I assume it's. They're being shot out of a cannon from their ship onto this island. Um, and even for kind of the um, the, the key art for this it, their ship almost looks to be made of an island, which is a little weird. I'm very curious to see what this is about. I'm very excited for this game. Um, I can't wait to get my hands on it, and I happen to have one of those. What do they call it? The coupon redeeming things. You pay 100 bucks, you get to two games free from Nintendo, right? This definitely has to be one of those, and, depending on when the other games come out, I'll maybe using it for this. When the other games come out, I'll maybe using it for this. Actually, no, because another game is coming even earlier than that, which we'll get into in a little bit. But I'm excited for mario and luigi brothership.
Rob:Next, donkey kong country returns hd. I'll be honest, I thought this was going to be a remake of the original Super Nintendo Donkey Kong Country game. I was pretty excited for that. I never got my hands on the Donkey Kong Country Returns. I heard kind of all over the place reviews with this one. Some people liked it, some people didn't, so my excitement level for it isn't all that high, but I'm still interested in it. It's still Donkey Kongong country. I honestly haven't even played tropical tropical freeze that much, um. So if I were going to get one, it'd be that one first, because that's the one I hear is really amazing, rather than going back to this one, uh. But donkey kong country returns hd, that is coming out January 16th, 2025. So it's in 2025, but really not that far away, right? Another interesting one keeping it with Mario Super Mario Party Jamboree.
Rob:Now, I've recently gotten way more into these games. I've always liked them, but I've really gotten more into making sure I play these games after I've had kids, because it's a great game to sit around with the whole family, even my wife, who doesn't play that many games anymore. This game is coming out October 17th, so not that far away at all, so I'm excited to get my hands on this and see what this is like. I'm excited to see all the new mechanics that they're adding into how you're moving the controller. I know some people are kind of like I don't want to do that. I don't like the. The motion controls aren't that fun. I'm on the camp of I don't care, it's just made to be fun and like dumb, mindless fun with your family. So I'm all up for it.
Rob:It looks great, I will say, and all the different modes that they have for it seem to be really fun. That uh, I forgot what they called it, but like that super koopa party mode where they're online going up against 20 people. I am so surprised I've not heard anyone say that basically is just fall, guys. So far is what it seems like to me. If you're going up against that many people and kind of like a almost of a Battle Royale style type of thing, it really seems like Fall Guys, if that's what it is, but with Mario I am all up for that because that seems really cool. And then I'm just really looking forward to playing this with the family, doing the mini games, even the board, and kind of doing all the other modes that they have for this. So I'm actually hyped for this. I was not expecting I would be when I saw that mario party came up, but seeing the full trailer really has me excited for it.
Rob:Um, the nintendo street sports they're adding basketball. Yay, it's kind of like one of those. All right, they're supporting it more. They're adding more stuff. All right, cool. I've played this game before. Um, the the vanilla version, and it was fun. I'll be honest, it was fun. Um, we're gonna save a couple things for last, so I'll run it through a couple of the other stuff.
Rob:Um, that metal slug attack reloaded game, which is out now, by the way, uh, which is it was almost kind of like a shadow drop. So this one is actually really cool that they are um, making that that tactical metal slug game that everybody was waiting to see finally come out. Um, and it's out now and it seems to be more like a tower defense game, which I don't think I've ever mentioned before, but I happen to love those games a lot and it's a different type of um tower defense game. It's not like the. You have the maze that you're placing all the units on, which is my favorite kind of tower defense. It more is that side scrolling linear type tower defense where all the horde is just coming in and the armies are meeting in the middle and you're trying to fight them off. That way. That one is still fun, but it's not necessarily always my bag. Um. Again, that one's out today.
Rob:Uh, among us getting an update illusion island heard. It's cool, sounds interesting, but yeah, whatever. Uh, nintendo world championship the nes edition this is actually really cool. I know this isn't the first um iteration of this that they've done. They've done other ones in the past. I'm very interested, kind of, to see what this is uh going to really play like and actually getting my hands on it. Obviously you're just doing a whole bunch of mini games and have the whole leaderboard and have this all online. Stuff seems very interesting.
Rob:This is coming out july 18th. If that is your bag, if you've played these before, you have a new one coming and it is coming out within a physical edition as well. You get the little gold cartridge that people do like getting their hands on the Ace Attorney collection. You know, if you like Ace Attorney, it's more Ace Attorney. It's his rival that became his friend. I forget his name. I'm not so big on Ace Attorney, I'm sorry. That is coming out September 6th.
Rob:Darkest Dungeon 2. It's coming out July 15th. If you're into it, you're into it. If you're not, then you're not. It's coming out July 15th. If you're into it, you're into it. If you're not, then you're not. It's a good game, though. People have played the first one that loved it. You're going to be excited for this one, no doubt. Luigi's Mansion 2 HD this is coming out June 27th, so very, very soon. And of course, it is just a remake or remaster of the second Luigi's Mansion game, which, you know, not the most beloved one, but I still hear good things about it.
Rob:So we also had updates for the Nintendo 64 online, nintendo Switch Online, as well as the Game Boy Advance Nintendo Switch Online services, starting with the Nintendo 64. They had added Perfect Dark and Turok Dinosaur Hunter and you know we talked about Perfect Dark before how it started off on Nintendo 64 and people loved it. It had a huge, huge population of people that loved that game and that's where really its popularity really kicked off and, you know, hopefully this new one that's coming out will bring back that popularity to this game. Turok, of course, is another game, old on Nintendo 64 that people really loved. I had my hands on it back then. I remember playing and it was from what I'm remembering. It might not hold up too well if you try to go back to back. You know right now, but you never know. The Game Boy Advance, nintendo Switch Online service. I'm more excited for this one because the games that were added were Metroid, zero Mission, which is amazing, and the Legend of Zelda, a Link to the Past, four Swords, which is also amazing, of course, just because it is A Link to the Past. Now they're not only just adding kind of the multiplayer functionality to the Legend of Zelda, but they're giving you online functionality for you to be able to play with your friends, which makes it even better, makes it easier for you to get kind of together and and do those little um, those missions for for within the game. And then I'm, of course, excited for metroid.
Rob:Metroid is a series that I have loved so much ever since. Back in the day, I'm super metroid. I can't even remember how old I was when I was playing that, but I was old enough to be confused about what to do when you get stuck in Super Metroid. You fall through the floor and you have that little ostrich looking thing that runs and jumps up, and I remember being stuck there for a little bit trying to figure out what do I do. I don't know how to get out of here. When you get the running boots, learn that you had to hit down, charge up and then blast up through the sky. So metroid has always been one of those very beloved games. Metroidvanias continue to be one of my favorite genres.
Rob:So now, on the nintendo switch, that that I came to this realization listening to IGN's Nintendo podcast. They brought up the Nintendo Switch has the most Metroid games on it, and it's true. They have Metroid 1 that you can play. They have the Metroid Zero Mission, which is the gameboy advance one. Now they have super metroid. Can you play metroid samus returns? Didn't they remake that for the switch? I know they did one for the 3ds, but am I, am I forgetting, or rather, am I remembering wrong that they did also do another one for the switch. I could have just been so close that I'm messing that up in my head. But anyways, you got Zero Mission, you got Super Metroid, you have Metroid Fusion, you have Metroid Dread, you have Metroid Prime. That is many of the best Metroid games that you can basically run through on that one console itself and as long as you have the online Switch service. You get Zero Mission, you get Fusion, you get Super Metroid and then Metroid Prime you can buy. And then we have Metroid Dread, which is a brand new Switch one, which is also amazing. And then they not only have all of those, but you show off metroid prime 4 beyond now.
Rob:We've been waiting to get a look at this for six, seven years now, ever since they showed off the trailer of just the logo for metroid prime 4. I can't even call it a trailer, it was just a logo and now in this one, we finally got to see gameplay. Um, and it, you know, of course, looks like Metroid Prime, but is everything I want the scanning, the shooting, the turning to the morph ball. I am so excited from this and it looks like it is following the story, or continuing the story for Metroid Prime 3. Of course, they're not going to bring a brand new story to it, start it over again.
Rob:I can't tell you who that guy is from the Federation Force that seems to be out for Samus. Looks like a weird robot. I remember seeing him. It's been so long since I played this game, I think online, what was it? Maybe Silas they called him, I forget, huh, I I don't remember. I have to go back through these. It was back on the Wii that I played these games and I don't remember what they were called, what, what his name was. But I'm excited to see what they do with this game. It does seem like, obviously, as is the fashion of every metroid game, you are starting over from scratch because you don't have bombs too much in this game.
Rob:It looks like she has a couple only um, people pointed out there were four slots for different things that she's going to get. I imagine it's going to be the missiles, the super missiles, the morph ball bomb, maybe. Maybe she's going to get a grapple gun or something like that. We'll see, I'm sure as Nintendo, how it is now. We'll add some sort of surprise in there, some sort of oh, I wasn't expecting that, because they have been doing that a lot in their games lately. Now this one is coming out in 2025. We don't have an actual date for it yet. Um, I imagine and I this is the big talk about metroid prime 4, right? Metroid prime 4 beyond is coming out in 2025. It looked crispy during that trailer. It looked very nice. I am not so confident that the current switch system can handle it that well.
Rob:Um, the speculation is that they showed the trailer running on the next iteration of what the sequel to the Switch will be either a Pro or a Switch 2, or what I like to think that it should be called is a Super Nintendo Switch, because, come on, I grew up with that generation back then NES to SNES. I'm excited to see what's going to happen with this. I think, personally, that it's going to be one of those cross-generation games. Play it on Switch, play it better on the new Switch. A lot of people seem to think no, no, it's only going to be on the Switch. They'll hold it off another two years, remaster it, bring it to the Switch 2. I don't think that's what they'll do. Another two years to remaster, bring it to the Switch 2. I don't think that's what they'll do.
Rob:I don't think the jump in the hardware will be that much to where they can say okay, now you can play it in 1080p, it's been remastered. I think the next generation software will allow you to have this game just run better as it should. On the next game, if it's either going to be 4k or 1080p, honestly I'd be fine. 1080p, handheld, 60 frames per second. That's all I need. If it's 4k on this tv, even better, but if it's not, it's okay. You know, nintendo's never been really known to be one of those people, uh, one of those companies that really push boundaries in, uh, in hardware. So we'll see what happens. Um, either way, I'm excited. I don't care what console is coming out for. I want to play now.
Rob:Last, and in my eyes definitely not least, the legend of zelda echoes of wisdom. This is coming out September 26. This is so close and this easily to me. It may be weird to others, but to me was my game of the direct. I love the idea. This is a top-down Zelda game. It looks like the remake to uh link's awakening. Uh, it has that same art style that you look like you're playing in a little diorama. Um, the twist to this one is that you are playing as zelda.
Rob:So I watched this trailer a couple of times and it starts off with link going to save zelda from ganondorf. And the ganondorf that they're showing looks like the Ganondorf from A Link to the Past the big piggy, mr Piggy, which I know they've used in several games. But it looks like that Ganondorf to me, that same style Ganondorf, the world itself, the Hyrule that they have in this game seems to be to me like the Hyrule from A Link to the Past. So I'm curious if this is a continuation of that. Now, I know A Link Between Worlds was essentially a sequel to A Link to the Past, so I'm hoping that this will kind of be like an alternate universe to that game, like a what if? Type of situation.
Rob:I know it's a speculation that a lot of others have as well, because it looks like that one part of the game where you're going to save Princess Zelda. She's stuck in a crystal. Like I said, link is going fighting. Ganondorf kind of beats him off with his last dying breath, drops this weird magical fissure purple chasm that is sucking everything into its darkness and Link falls into it and, before he completely falls in, shoots the bow, hits the crystal to free Zelda, and that's where she gets left in. Now this is where that kind of like what if? Scenario comes in is. Is this kind of like a what if? Kind of link? Kind of failed, didn't actually beat ganondorf and now it's up to zelda to save Hyrule? It looks very interesting. My head is all over the place with what this game could really have, what it could be.
Rob:So with this game you are, like I said, playing as Zelda. You meet a strange little fairy called Tri, and from Tri you get the Tri Rod, tri and from tri you get the tri rod, and what the tri rod allows zelda to do is to create echoes of different things, uh-huh, echoes of wisdom, of different things in the world that she can then use to a get up different cliffs. As like, uh, the first thing they showed was little table. You can get a chair, a bed, a trampoline, all sorts of different things that you can get in the game, so that you can kind of jump up a cliff and complete different puzzles. Now you not only are able to get different boxes, materials or different other things, but you can also create echoes of enemies and you can have these enemies come out and fight for you and it.
Rob:During the trailer you see Zelda kind of have kind of the two pigs with the swords, uh, come out and attack, and I thought it was going to be okay. You can have one at a time, but no, she drops two of them. Maybe it's going to be okay, you can have one at a time, but no, she drops two of them. Maybe it's going to go off of her magic meter, maybe it'll go off some sort of diamond meter. But I'm very curious to see what this is going to be about. And it looks like, in a way, they're bringing in the mechanics of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, because, even though it's a top-down Zelda game, they're giving you the here you go, here are your tools set, you go ahead and solve these puzzles, however you want to do it using all of the little tools that we gave you in the world, and they mention themselves that they don't know how many items they added, or rather they have in the game, because they haven't gone through all of them. So I'm excited to see what this is going to be. I'm excited to see what the hell of the story is like. Does link come back? Do you ever end up getting a sword? So far, it doesn't seem like you're going to be fighting with a sword, as zelda, which I'm okay with. She's a mage. She's always been a mage. Usually in these old top down Zelda games she was only kind of a more melee focused as Sheik. So I'm curious to see what this will be very excited.
Rob:September 6th is not far away and that was the Nintendo Direct from Nintendo and I popped off for this hard. I was so excited. I still am excited for a lot of the games that were shown and less than half of the games, I guess honestly because they didn't show off um uh silk song, which is the follow-up to hollow knight, which is the game that you heard zero stumbling over himself trying to remember which is what the Dio game really reminded him of it and it does looks great. And, as you heard Zero mentioned, he's not excited for a good amount of these games because a good amount of them aren't that exciting and yeah, but I'm excited for the ones that were shown. That were the big pop-off ones and that was enough to make this a great direct for me. I'm very excited. I can't wait. Many of these games are coming out within the next couple of months.
Rob:We are going to be eating very well on the nintendo switch hardware. That is seven is it? Are we in the seventh year or are we going into the 8th? We're either going into the 7th year or we're going into the 8th year. Either way. Nintendo Switch, as old as it is, is an amazing console that has amazing games that we're still getting great stuff for. I'm so excited, I'm so content with it. As of right now, I still have my original Switch. I am so excited, I am so content with it. As of right now, I still have my original Switch. I want so bad to buy the OLED, by the way, but I haven't yet because you know the new Switch is coming out soon, so I'm just going to wait for that Before we go.
Rob:I do want to bring up that Phantom Brave game, the Lost Hero, that they showed during the direct. It was good too. I'm excited for this. Phantom Brave is a game that people like, but even more so the Marvel vs Capcom fighting collection, the arcade classics. I know that Zero is really excited for this one too. I'm excited for it too. To be honest, I'm not gonna buy it on the switch. Don't buy that game on the switch. It's coming to uh playstation and pc as well. Get it there so that you can use your fight stick like a man. But if you're at all familiar with marvel versus capcom 2, you will know that that game has been lost to time. I had it on the xbox 360 back in a day. I played it, I loved it.
Rob:You were not able to get this game on a console, on pc. The only way you had access to this game, uh, was through a arcade cabinet, and that was just recently released, last year. I believe. That's what that whole campaign, that maximilian dude had about the free marvel versus capcom, because you could not get access to this game legally anywhere. You could not buy it. You couldn't get a physical copy maybe I guess you could if they had one, but you weren't able to access this game. And for the first time in many, many years, you're finally able to get marvel versus capcom 2 and with, of course, all the other marvel versus games that they have their children of adam, marvel versus capcom 1, the the beat them up, of punisher, but marvel Capcom 2, you have access to it.
Rob:I'm hyped. I'm going to get this probably on my PC so I can do it with a fight stick and put it on my Steam Deck and probably get beat up by Zero. I'm super hyped for this. I know Zero's hype as well. Yeah, that was the Nintendo Direct. That was the Xbox Showcase, that was all of SDF. Over the past week and a half we had amazing stuff. We are going to be eating great as gamers the rest of this year into the next year. I am so hyped for everything that's coming up. I hope you are as well, and I just want to thank you all for coming to join us today, and I know we'll have so much more to speak about over the coming weeks. Hope you all come back to support, to listen and until next time, see ya.
